We use phonics to help our children learn to read and spell words in the earliest stages of their development. Phonics skills are not the same as reading and spelling but are crucial building blocks in children’s learning journeys to become fluent, confident and engaged readers and writers.
We hold a phonic word skill evening in October each year for parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 so we can work together as effectively as possible to support your child in acquiring skills swiftly. At this meeting, we discuss the program of work, how we teach, our use of technical words with children and ways to support. Please do come along – we are a friendly team and the more we work together the better for your child.
