We are fortunate at Eastington Primary School to have a committed Governor Board with a wide range of skills and experiences that support the school’s development.
The three main roles of Governors are:
- To provide a strategic view
- To act as a critical friend
- To ensure accountability
The Governing Board work closely with the Headteacher to provide the best possible provision for children. Recognising the importance of a positive partnership between the home and the school, the governors play an active role within the school and the wider community.

Mrs Trim – Chair & Local Authority Governor
Carol Trim is a Reading Consultant who runs her own business which supports children to become brilliant readers – she shares this passion & focus for reading with the school. She is the link Governor for English and children in receipt of Pupil Premium. Carol has a strong understanding of finance and enjoys challenging & supporting the school in her role on the financial Governor team as well as Chair.
Ms Avastu – Headteacher
Zoe Avastu has taught for 20 years and has had the privilege of being part of the SLT for several schools bringing about positive change. She is committed to children being the best they can be socially, emotionally & academically and has high expectations of all. She is committed to life long learning and takes great pleasure when children make the most of the many opportunities offered to them at school. When not working, she loves playing board games and swimming with her family and walking in the beautiful hills of Gloucestershire.
Mr Chatterley– Co-opted Governor
Mark Chatterley has been heavily committed to Eastington community as a parish councillor – he understands the locality well and how to work with other organisations. He runs his own business and has strong skills in finance and IT. Mark lives locally and is committed to ensuring the school offers the best opportunities to all children.
Mrs Williams– Co-opted Governor
Jane Williams is an experience Teaching Assistant who has worked with children in KS1 and KS2. Outside school Jane helps run a small hairdressing chain. All of this helps her in her role as school governor.
Mrs Jones-Jonzon – Parent Governor
Mrs Jones-Jonzon is a skilled practitioner of Early Years and has a strong understanding of child development. She is the link Governor for children with SEND. She has two children in our school.
Mrs Nina Foster – Co-opted Governor
Mrs Foster has a strong understanding of Safeguarding through her work which she brings to the Governing Board. She is the link Governor for Safeguarding. Mrs Foster has one child in the school.
Mrs Parsons – Staff Governor
Catrin Parsons is an experienced EYFS teacher and DSL. She is also a parent of three children.
Mrs Redpath – Co-opted Governor
Jemma Redpath is the Deputy Headteacher of the school and has taught KS1 and KS2. She has a passion for ensuring quality learning is provided for all children and outdoor learning opportunities are provided. When not in school, Jemma loves undertaking DIY projects, sports activities and enjoying her much loved family & cats.
Mrs Hyde – Clerk to the Governors
Mrs Hyde is an experienced clerk and is also the school Administration Officer. When not working, she enjoys outdoor activities with her family.
